Rethinking hanging light fixtures on Live Chat Day
Most of you have probably seen this by now. If you haven’t, well, I’m sure you’ll agree after watching it that Michael McComish is lucky to be alive. It sounds like the light wasn’t hung from as high up as you might think, but still, what if McComish had been standing up and the fixture landed right on his head? It’s a very good thing for him he was in the ‘down’ position.
As a kid I used to stare at the scoreboard in the center of the SF Arena and wonder just how safe it was. Obviously there are really big center-hanging fixtures all over — the scoreboard at the Xcel Energy Center weighs over 50,000 pounds — and their safety records are (as far as I know) basically 100 percent.
Hopefully the places around the country that are doing so on a smaller scale are much more careful after what happened in Madison.
