Another Pheasants matinee

Since you guys like it when I give you an excuse not to go to work, here’s a reminder that the Birds are hosting first-place Winnipeg today at noon. Kids are free through the month of June, so call in sick and take your kids to the game.

For once, I will not be in the stands enjoying a midday beer, but actually working, covering the game. I haven’t covered the last few games as I’ve been working on some other projects, and in my absence the Birds have caught fire, winning five straight and six of seven to pull within two games of first place.

Surely I will jinx them and bring the win streak to an end today. But even if I do, this has been a big week for the Pheasants, sweeping St. Paul and winning a series against the first-place Goldeyes. Attendance is also up considerably, with the Birds drawing over 3,300 on Fathers Day.

Their average crowd of 2,137 is still second to last in the league, but they’re at least headed in the right direction.
