The Week That Was
I worked most of the weekend, including Sunday, so you’re not going to get much from me today.
What you should read, if you haven’t already, is my column on the greatest players of the first 20 years of Canaries/Pheasants baseball, and the list of said players.
You should also read Mick Garry’s blog touching on the death of Twin Cities radio personality Dark Star. I was a big fan of the Dark Man. I got to be a fan of him through ‘The Sports Show’ an MSC/FSN production that played a role in me eventually launching the career that I have. He seemed like a dude that knew how to have a good time while covering sports. I liked that. And growing up as a crazy Twins fan, I got to know Dark’s voice as the voice of almost all the commercials that aired during Twins games. My favorite was the ad for Davanni’s pizza (D-A-V-A-N-N-I-apostrophe-S, pizzas and hoagies at their absolute best).
On the latest episode of ‘The Sports Show’, Sid Hartman and Pat Reusse (who also wrote a must-read column on Dark’s death) leave a seat open for Dark, and remember some of his best commercial voice-overs, and some of the other stuff that made him a big deal in the Twin Cities.
RIP, Dark. You were one of a kind.
